Dash Express – Internet Connected GPS

16 April, 2008 (21:28) | Gadget | By: Liebrand

logo-dash I recently purchased a Dash Express ( which is an Internet connected GPS unit. I have had it for about a week so far and I am pretty impressed with it. They have a feature called TruTraffic which gets real-time traffic information from not only a traffic provider, but also other Dash Express users driving the streets (not just highways). Here is a blog posting from a Dash employee that explains how their traffic information is gathered and used:

Here is a picture of the unit:

One of the nicest things about this unit compared to other GPS units I have used in the past is it received software and map updates automatically.

The search interface uses live Yahoo search results which means you always get the most up-to-date information.

It has a few quirks so far and it is missing a couple features but the Dash team appears to be listening to the community and will be incorporating a lot of features in the future.

I’ll keep you posted as I use this device more.

Out of all the GPS units I have used, this device has the most accurate ETA.  This is partly due to the fact that historical traffic data is used to calculate the time. I have a 65+ mile commute everyday and it pin points my arrival time to within 1-2 minutes.
